Roxy has a Bachelor's of Arts in Anthropology and Film from Reed College. She feels most confident working with kids ages 4-8 and older, and also has experience with kiddos as young as a year old.
 

In her downtime, Roxy enjoys writing, photography, reading, and playing guitar. She describes herself as very social, independent, and a big extrovert who loves being out of the house.
 

When working with kiddos, Roxy loves reading together and watching movies, and enjoys introducing kids to films that are good for the brain and the artistic side. She's also big on swimming (please see Portland Sitters swimming policy), playing sports, and being outside.

Roxy's childcare approach centers on building a genuine friendship with each kiddo, balanced with clear boundaries. She sees herself as a safe authority figure and believes trust is essential, both having fun together and knowing that when she says "no," it's to keep them safe. She treats kids as equals, staying warm and positive while also being firm when it's needed.

When it comes to challenging behavior, Roxy focuses on being a calm space where kids can settle down. She lets kids fully feel and move through their emotions rather than rushing them, and gently encourages them to use their words to describe what they're feeling and where it's coming from, without pushing if they're not ready to get there. She'll offer familiar, comforting activities (like reading or a favorite movie) to help ease a change of pace, and works to de-escalate in a way that leaves the child feeling supported and positive.
 

To help kids feel safe and comfortable meeting her for the first time, Roxy gets on their level. She wants to know what's fun for them, what they're into, and gives them the chance to show her what they're excited about.

No need to feed your sitter, but if you're ordering takeout and want to include them, Roxy is always happy to enjoy pretty much anything! Roxy has a fish allergy (though salmon and shrimp are okay), and loves dishes that have noodles or rice, burgers and chicken!

Qualifications/Certifications:
-Roxy has had previous COVID Vaccinations.
-Roxy is comfortable with all animals, including dogs, cats, and exotic animals.
-Up-To-Date CPR, AED, & First Aid Certifications.
-Clean Background Check.
-Has a driver's license and personal transportation.
